The implementation of coherent systems in communications involves the post-processing optical transmitted signal after photodetection due to need mitigate transmission impairments. This processing is currently performed electrical domain using a digital device (DSP), which increases latency, and costs form power consumption additional equipment. use programmable photonics opens door correcting main impairments real-time inside photonic chip, allowing adaptive through time fluctuations.
